USTIF was established in Chapter 7 of the Storage Tank and Spill Prevention Act (Act of Jul. 6, 1989, P.L. 169, No. 32), also known as the Tank Act.

The USTIF regulations are found in 25 Pa. Code Ch. 977. USTIF’s regulations provide requirements for fees, coverage, and dispute procedures.

Additional regulations pertaining to DEP’s regulation of underground storage tanks are found in 25 Pa. Code Ch. 245.

USTIF has amended its regulations to clarify claim eligibility requirements. Please see the Pennsylvania Bulletin for the final rulemaking.
